Poetry

There is nothing but beauty –

and beauty has only one perfect expression,

     Poetry.

All the rest is a lie.

Faith

RIC_0487, a photo by rchoephoto on Flickr.

Faith is not the belief that God will do
     what you want.
It is the belief that God will do what is right.

Accountability

Foggy Day 3 (2014, 1.11), a photo by rchoephoto on Flickr.

I cannot be me without you
and we cannot be us without them,
and together we have a future.

Saving the World

RIC_0299-1, a photo by rchoephoto on Flickr.

Zen poet Thich Nhat Hanh was asked
“what do we most need to do to save our world?”
His answer was this: “What we most need to do is
to hear within us the sounds of the Earth crying.”

Sacred

RIC_1206-1, a photo by rchoephoto on Flickr.

Earth's crammed with heaven,

And every common bush afire with God,

But only he who sees takes off his shoes;

The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Healing

Toronto 3 (2013, 11.20), a photo by rchoephoto on Flickr.

The healing comes from letting there be room
for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief,
     for misery, for joy.

Growing Old

Christian Island Ferry, a photo by rchoephoto on Flickr.

One great thing about growing old is
that nothing is going to lead to anything.

Love

On the way to Christian Island (2013, 9.22), a photo by rchoephoto on Flickr.

The wise are only wise only because they love.
The fools are only fools only because they think
     they can understand love.

Truth can appear as disaster in a land
of things unspoken.

Belonging

RIC_6978-1, a photo by rchoephoto on Flickr.

I am not saying that it would be lovely if we could be
connected; I am saying, we are connected. Whether
or not I like the idea, you belong to me. We belong
to all creatures, and all creatures belong to us.

Hope

I would love to live
Like a river flows,
Carried by the surprise
Of its own unfolding.
