The reality of all the arts is that of the imagination. ... The security of the imagination lies in calling, all our lives, for more liberty, more rebellion, more belief.

Every Moment

Cancer changed the way I ate, slept, and most
importantly the way I live. Before cancer I was like most
folks, just cruising along. It was during my treatment,
when starting to discover what cancer could give to me —
the ability to absorb every moment as if each one were
     my whole life.

Hope

Hope is hope against the evidence. Hope arises in a break with the past. There is a kind of cut and the past is let go of. There is a difference between simple expectation and hope. … Expectation is based on the pattern you see in the past…. I think that hope is a kind of birth — it doesn’t come out of what went before, it comes out in spite of what went before.
